Annual ranking of the biggest companies in Southeast Europe
The oil and gas industry, the biggest in the region, posted a slight decline in total revenue and a sharp fall in profit. Pharmaceuticals remained the most profitable industry with a 13.35% return on revenue.
The four leading industries in terms of total annual revenue in the 2012 SEE industrial ranking remained unchanged for a fourth year in a row.
The pharmaceutical market in Southeast Europe (SEE) continued to grow in 2010 despite the economic volatility brought on by the global financial crisis. Pharmaceutical sales in the region are still dominated by generic drugs, especially in terms of volume, due to low per capita income and underinvestment in research and development activities focused on new medicines.
